ACREU is a “virtual research unit.” Although it is based at the Toronto Western Research Institute, part of the University Health Network (UHN) in Toronto, our investigators hold research appointments at other institutions and hospitals, including: University of Toronto; Women’s College Hospital; Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre; and St. Michael’s Hospital, Toronto.

ACREU has a multi-disciplinary core team of ten research investigators with expertise in epidemiology, rheumatology, orthopaedics, public health, physiotherapy and the social sciences. Five of ACREU’s current investigators, including Director Elizabeth M. Badley, have been part of the ACREU team since it was formed in 1991. The core investigators (Badley, Cott, Davis and Gignac) are based in the Health Care and Outcomes Research Division of the Toronto Western Research Institute.
ACREU consists of a variety of staff – administrative staff research, support staff, and students. Staff members have a range of backgrounds, including epidemiology, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, psychology, sociology and health promotion.
